The Indian Army on 03 Jul 2018 commemorated the supreme sacrifice made by Brigadier Mohd Usman, Maha Vir Chakra and his men, who attained martyrdom defending the Nation during 1947-48 operations in the Naushera Sector, during a grand yet solemn memorial function held at Jhangar and Naushera.
The function organised by Indian Army’s Ace of Spades Division included laying of wreath at Usman Memorial, Jhangar and felicitation of Veer Naris and veterans. A cultural event showcasing unity in diversity was also hosted at Butalia Auditorium, Naushera wherein young children mesmerised the audience with their spectacular performances. In the run up to the celebrations, over a span of one week,  Army had also conducted a medical camp, veterinary camp and cultural competition for the border villages of Naushera tehsil.
‘Naushera Ka Sher’ is a title given to Brigadier Mohd Usman, Maha Vir Chakra for his bravery and valour during the 1947-48 operations, who along his men not just prevented the capture of Naoshera town but in a fierce battle, recaptured the Jhangar area from Pakistan before succumbing to his injuries on 03 Jul 1948. Indian Army joins the entire nation in saluting the supreme sacrifice of the brave heart.
