09 August 2018: On 08.08.2018 at about 11:30 hrs while acting on a credible tip off regarding movement/presence of some foreign terrorists who had recently infiltrated and sneaked in to the upper reaches of Rafiabad forest, Sopore Police , 32 RR and 9 PARA launched a cordon and search operation in the suspected area near Vijiy Top/Dooniwari forests and during search operation a group of terrorists was intercepted who were challenged to stop , but they opened heavy volume of firing upon Security forces. Security forces instantly returned the fire and thereby a gunfight has triggered. Since the whole area was difficult terrain / dense forest and the terrorists by taking advantage of such topography gave a tough resistance, but the security forces effectively/professionally fought and retaliated the fire and in the ensuing gunfight which continued till today upto 1300 hours five Foreign terrorists were eliminated whose identification is being ascertained. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. One Para commando of 9 PARA also got injured in the instant operation. Case FIR NO.111/2018 U/S 307/RPC, 7/27 A.Act stands registered in P/S Dangiwacha and investigation taken up.
It is pertinent to mention here that the slain terrorists were a part of a group of LeT terrorists operating in this area from last few days. The slain terrorists were fully equipped with sophisticated weapons and their main aim was to disturb peace and tranquility in the particular area of Police District Sopore.
