RAJOURI, AUGUST 10: District Administration Rajouri today strongly rebutted allegations of denying monthly pension to an elderly couple by it as being circulated in social media by a local journalist.
“A detailed inquiry into the matter has revealed that allegations laid against district administration are baseless, devoid of facts, frivolous and intended to malign the image of administration. The couple is being provided pension on monthly basis for past more than 6 months,” a district administration spokesperson said.
“It seems the journalist has initiated a malicious campaign in social media against administration without ascertaining the facts” he said.
The Journalist had alleged that elderly Wazir Mohammad and his wife Rehmat Bi resident of Galluti tehsil Manjakote are forced to begging as they were not aided under Old Age Pension Scheme despite running from pillar to post for past two years.
Taking cognizance, the DC Rajouri Mohammad Aijaz Asad ordered in-depth inquiry in the matter and the reports submitted by Social welfare department revealed that the elderly couple are   being provided pension under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS). “Wazir Mohd son of Masai Ali of Galuthi is being provided pension regularly in his A/C No. 3058040100004393 under IGNOPS No 4393 and his wife Rehmat Bi is provided pension in her A/C No. 3058040100004392 under IGNOPS No. 4392 and latest pension amount was credited in their accounts on July 10, 2018 and July 13, 2018” the spokesperson said.
He further said the couple also denied about begging when asked by the Tehsildar concerned. “Instead the elderly couple said that their picture was clicked without their knowledge and misused to portray them as beggar” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, the administration has constituted a team headed by an executive magistrate to investigate into the intention of the scribe behind spreading misinformation, disturbing the privacy of couple besides defaming them.
“On the basis of official report, a defamation suit may be filed against the scribe” the spokesperson said.
